NFL Prospect Khyree Jackson’s Tragic Last Post Before Fatal Car Accident
Khyree Jackson, a promising NFL prospect, tragically passed away in a car accident early Saturday morning, just hours after sharing a poignant final post on Instagram.
The 24-year-old Jackson, recently drafted by the Minnesota Vikings, was in a car with two friends when a speeding vehicle collided with them. Jackson, who played as a cornerback, and the driver, Hazel, were pronounced dead at the scene. Hazel had been Jackson’s teammate in high school. Another passenger and teammate, Anthony Lytton Jr., was rushed to the hospital but also succumbed to his injuries.
On Friday, Jackson had posted a 10-slide Instagram carousel featuring moments from his life, including pictures of him at Vikings practice. His post, captioned “Mmmhmmm,” included images of him smiling on a beach with two parrots, flexing with a lizard, and showcasing his style in mirror selfies. One picture illustrated a comparison between “dreamers” and “doers,” with a group labeled as “dreamers” watching a man labeled as a “doer” surfing a huge wave—a metaphor that resonated with Jackson’s life as a “doer.”
Jackson began his college football career at Fort Scott Community College after graduating from Dr. Henry Wise Jr. High School. He then advanced to play for the Oregon Ducks and the Alabama Crimson Tide, with 2023 being his standout season. Jackson was selected in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL draft.
In response to the tragedy, the Minnesota Vikings expressed their sorrow in a statement: “The news of Khyree Jackson’s death after an overnight car accident breaks our hearts. The Minnesota Vikings have talked to Khyree’s family and offered their support while we look into the matter further. We have also communicated the news to Vikings players, coaches, and staff and have offered counseling for those who need emotional support. Our hearts go out to Khyree’s family, friends, teammates, coaches, and all the other people who died in this terrible accident.”
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell shared his condolences, highlighting Jackson’s impact on the team: “The news of this breaks my heart. Khyree’s energy spread through our building and team. His teammates liked him right away because he was sure of himself and had a great personality. While we were together, it was clear that Khyree was going to become a great professional football player. But what really impressed me was how much he wanted to be the best person he could be for his family and the people around him.”
The accident occurred around 3 a.m. Saturday when Jackson was riding in a Dodge Charger with Hazel and Lytton Jr. A speeding Infiniti pulled out in front of them, causing the Charger to veer off the road and hit several tree stumps. The Infiniti also collided with a Chevrolet Impala, but the occupants of both vehicles were unharmed.
As of now, no charges have been filed in connection with the accident.
