Our thoughts and prayers go out to Donald Trump and his family for their tragic loss

Lou Dobbs Passes Away at 78: Remembering the Controversial Political Commentator

Lou Dobbs, the well-known political commentator, passed away at the age of 78. His death was announced just hours before former President Donald Trump was scheduled to give his acceptance speech on the final night of the Republican National Convention. Trump expressed his sorrow over the loss, calling Dobbs an “incredible talent” and mourning the passing of a man he considered a friend and remarkable journalist.

Trump took to Truth Social to share his condolences, stating, “The Great Lou Dobbs has just passed away. A friend and a truly amazing reporter, journalist, and artist.” Trump praised Dobbs for his deep understanding of global affairs, saying, “He knew more about the world and what was ‘happening’ than most people. Lou was one of a kind, and he loved our country.” He extended his sympathy to Dobbs’ wife, Debi, and their entire family, expressing that Dobbs would be greatly missed.

The cause of Dobbs’ death has not been disclosed at this time.

Dobbs’ career in journalism began as a reporter for the Arizona radio station KBLU, where he covered police and fire cases. By the mid-1970s, he transitioned to television, joining NBC’s King-TV in Seattle. In 1980, he became one of the first reporters to work for CNN, a network founded by Ted Turner. Dobbs served as the chief economics correspondent and hosted the business news show “Moneyline.”

During his tenure at CNN, Dobbs became known for his controversial viewpoints, particularly his promotion of the debunked theory that then-presidential candidate Barack Obama was not born in the United States. This stance, along with his intense coverage of illegal immigration, ultimately led to increased tension between Dobbs and CNN leadership, resulting in his departure from the network in 2009.
